SEO is the process of optimizing a website so that it ranks well in search engine results. SEO encompasses both on-page and off-page optimization techniques, but for this blog post we will focus primarily on SEO best practices to optimize your content for SEO. I’m going to give you SEO tips from my experience as an SEO consultant and what I’ve learned over the years from reading about SEO best practices.
The SEO tips I am going to share are:
Use keywords in your page titles, headings and content. Make sure the keyword you want to rank for is at least once per 100 words of text on a webpage. Not including any SEO best practice will result in poor rankings or no ranking at all.
Make sure that when publishing posts they have titles, descriptions (to tell readers what they’re about), and tags (i.e. SEO, blogging)
SEO starts with research – find out what type of information people are searching for in order to write about it so that readers can be found by Google’s search algorithm (SEO). SEO becomes easier when you know who will most likely read your article and what they’re looking for before writing it. Focus on providing helpful advice rather than self promotion because if someone doesn’t trust an article enough to click through, SEO doesn’t matter. SEO is about ranking well in SERPs (search engine results pages) so that people can find your blog post when they search for what you’re writing about.
Use quality content and SEO on every page of your site, not just the homepage or posts with a lot of traffic potential. SEO should be used to rank all areas of your website because Google crawls through the entire website during their indexing process – if an area isn’t SEO’ed then it won’t show up in searches at all!
Include SEO keywords in the post’s content––but I recommend doing it strategically so that they are found by search engine crawlers and rank higher on Google searches.
SEO titles should be found in the first sentence of a post, SEO descriptions should have 150 characters or less and include keywords that are important to the topic at hand.
The best SEO tags for your posts are: SEO, blogging, keyword strategy, backlinks––which are all words you will likely use in your content too! These help people find what they’re looking for on Google searches.
Make sure to publish blog posts with links out to other sites if it’s relevant and can add value to readers by giving them information they need from another site. This is called link baiting which helps build quality backlinks because these days many websites depend heavily on their incoming links as an indicator of popularity.
Make sure to write posts with lots of quality information (i.e., a minimum of 500 words), use relevant images or embedded videos when possible, list sources used for research at the end
